B and I have been talking about having a toad pond for some time now. Our hen, Dorothy, is elderly and we figured that when she is no longer with us we would take out the hen house and make the enclosure into a toad garden complete with pond.
But knowing how much I was looking forward to having some toads (they're really sweet, honestly !), B couldn't resist bringing this little fellow home when he found him up at the allotments yesterday and we spent the evening quickly erecting a makeshift toad garden next to Dorothy's run:-
The earth is nice and moist there next to the rhododendron and is covered in bark chippings which the toad can use to hide beneath and also dig for worms and bugs (a toad's favourite food, apparently). We've also buried a wide, shallow plastic dish into the ground so that he has his very own pond. We hope he'll be very happy :)
Tonight we had another lovely evening - we took Lucy and Whiskers up to Osmotherley on the edge of the North York Moors, picked up some fish and chips, and took our picnic with a glass of wine to sit next to the stream up by Cod Beck reservoir. The girls had a wonderful time running in and out of the water whilst we sat and munched our tea and supped our wine and we then went for a walk along the stream's bank to find some deeper water for the girls to swim in and cool off after another hot day. I just wish I'd taken my camera so I could have shared the wonderful evening with you all.
Nevermind, tomorrow is another day x
